KETAMINE IN ONE SYRINGE IM AS INJECTABLE
ANAESTHETICS FOR CAT NEUTER OR SPAY In Feb 2009, I neutered a male cat, 4.5kg xylazine 20 at 0.1 ml IM ketamine 100 at 0.4ml IM OK. Recovers <30 min. This dosage will be too low for cats of same weight if they are spayed as spaying takes around 30 minutes compared to neutering which takes around 5 minutes. I spayed a female cat, 2.5kg xylazine 20 at 0.15 ml IM ketamine 100 at 0.6ml IM Excellent anaesthesia. OK. Recovers 30-50 min after the end of spay. For spaying female cats above 4 kg xylazine 20 at 0.2 ml IM ketamine 100 at 0.8ml IM Excellent anaesthesia. OK. Recovers >30 min after the end of spay. July 2009 Observations  For spaying female cats 3-4 kgxylazine 20 at 0.15 ml IM ketamine 100 at 0.5ml IM Excellent anaesthesia in this case of 3.65 kg cat (picture). Double ligation of the uterine body and care stretched this surgery to 29 minutes. For spaying female cats 2-3 kg xylazine 20 at 0.1 ml + ketamine 100 at 0.4ml, one syringe, IM Excellent anaesthesia. Pre-operation preparation should be done prior to injection. The start of spay should commence around 5 minutes after injection and be completed in 15 minutes. This may not be possible with caterwauling cats. Therefore, you may need top up with isoflurane gas (via mask,5%, to effect, usually <1 minutes of gas). Or inject 0.1 ml of the above combination.
