tpvets_logo.jpg (2726 bytes)2066 - 73. Another instance of "events happen in 3s" within a short period of time. I had a premonition about getting 3 cheek pouch cases in a row. As if there is a divine power orchestrating veterinary events. 

This also occurred in the "3 urinary tract infection cases" I wrote earlier. This is the 3rd cheek pouch case in dwarf hamsters seen by me in a short time. In the 3rd case, the cheek pouch tumour everted whereas the other two cases were cheek pouch swelling inside the cheek.

Blood was splattered everywhere in the cage in this 3rd case. The hamster was in the best body condition compared to the other 2 cases. But he did not recover well from anaesthesia. He was stressed. Should he be operated? Waiting could lead to more stress and death. It was now or never.

Operated at 11 am. However he was OK and went home at 8 p.m.  Above pictures took me 2 hours to create for this webpage. Creations could not be speedier. Cheek pouch tumour surgery took 30 minutes to do. Liquid diet and electrolytes to be given for next 7 days so that the pouch will heal properly. No dry pellets to store for this hamster.

tpvets_logo.jpg (2726 bytes)2060 - 63. A boy was worried that his hamster has a belly tumour. His parents took time off to bring his best friend to the vet. The scent gland in the dwarf hamster was be clogged with waxy secretions. Tumours needed to be ruled out too. There was no tumour.

tpvets_logo.jpg (2726 bytes)2056 - 58. "Did you cut the cheek pouch?" the lady owner who diagnosed left cheek pouch abscess and e-mailed me was taking the hamster home after 2 days at the Surgery. There was no pain on palpation of the cheek pouch. Hamster had left eye conjunctivitis and neck skin infections. Antibiotics given.
